Rolando is one of those special parts of San Diego that has a real sense of place. Begun in the 1920s as a planned community, Rolando Village and its southern neighbor San Diego Park feature many attractive pre-World War Two homes and the feel of an older neighborhood. The area grew up in the shadow of San Diego State University, whose campus just to the northwest of the neighborhood brought in many students, artists, and academics to live in the suburb.
By 1954, Rolando residents voted to join the City of San Diego, and since then, Rolando has been one of the best neighborhoods in San Diego’s Mid City area. Because it borders La Mesa on the east, Rolando still retains its suburban vibe, as well as its artistic reputation: the Moxie Theatre, one of California’s premier stages for live drama, calls Rolando home.
Real estate all over San Diego County is making a strong comeback, and nowhere else is that trend more evident than in Rolando, where you can find all the amenities of city living with all the quiet and comfort of suburban living.
